South Bronx United combines soccer with educational enrichment, college prep, health and wellness and leadership development to engage 800 youth aged 4-19. South Bronx, one of the poorest congressional districts in the U.S., is home to a fast growing immigrant community that is passionate for soccer. Whether they come for the drop-in soccer clinics on the weekend or the intensive after school teams and tutoring, participants find a wide array of support and recreation at SBU!
- 95% of SBU students are immigrants or first-generation Americans.
- In the last three years, 100% of high school seniors who had joined SBU by their junior year graduated on time and 93% enrolled in college.
- 83% of 2013 SBU graduates have matriculated in college. 96% were accepted into college. The rest of the seniors matriculated in Fall 2014. Financial reasons, including ineligibility for federal aid due to immigration issues, led to several students deferring for a year.
