Latinas on the Verge of Excellence (L.O.V.E.)

Latinas on the Verge of Excellence (L.O.V.E.) pairs high-school aged Latinas, a group that ranks lowest in graduation, and highest in teen pregnancy and suicidal ideation, with college-aged mentors in a program designed to increase high school graduation and college enrollment, and promote healthy lifestyles. L.O.V.E. recruits 9th grade students from partner schools, providing a curriculum with three core components: personal empowerment, study skills, and college access.

 

Fast Facts:

  • The L.O.V.E. Mentoring Program is held in eight public high schools and supports 120 mentees.
  • Throughout the academic year,L.O.V.E. mentees and mentors participate in weekly 1.5 hour sessions structured by a curriculum which consists of three core components: personal empowerment, study skills, and college access.
  • L.O.V.E. plans to double the number of participants it serves to 240 over the next two years.
