STOKED figured out that action sports provide a great hook for at-risk youth, who join the program to learn skateboarding, snowboarding and surfing, perhaps not even realizing they also receive mentoring and college prep, and learn character building, leadership development, teamwork and goal setting. The program is proud that 100% of its seniors are entering college, many as the first in their families to graduate high school. Said a vice-principal at a partner school, “I can teach math and science, but no one builds students’ character better than STOKED!”
